Bhima is believed to have visited the place during the exile of the Pandavas, when he used his divine gada to form the lake and quench Draupadi’s thirst.
The lake is a union of seven interconnected lakes, and hosts the arrival of migratory birds every year.
Locals believe this lake emerged as a divine blessing over Brahmaji’s tapasya at the site. Anyone who performs parikrama at this location is thus divinely blessed.

This festival marks a change of season and is celebrated on the day of Makar Sankranti every year. During this festival, a special delicacy is created, deep-fried and helps in the formation of garlands.
This festival of spring is celebrated in mid-March, during which the young girls of the community offer wishes for the prosperity of the household and in return are given blessings and presents.

Due to the extreme weather conditions, the natives look for food options that are high in nutrition. Made from black beans and cooked with a trademark aroma, makes this dish a preference for both locals and visitors.
This sweet dish is made with Khoya, wrapped in maalu leaf, and bears resemblance to a cone. Singori is considered one of the most sought-after desserts of Uttarakhand and is the pride of Kumaon.
Prepared with khoya and a sugary white coating, Bal mithai is believed to have been the name of the prime offering to the Sun God and is considered to be a local favourite.

The Kumaon flock dance dates back thousands of years. This region is also known for rock painting and is said to be the point of origin of Pahari Kalam which is yet another style of painting well-known across the world.
