Bal Mithai

Prepared with khoya and a sugary white coating, Bal mithai is believed to have been the name of the prime offering to the Sun God and is considered to be a local favourite.

Their unity is only matched by the strong sentiments of patriotism that permeate into all families, many of whom have loved ones engaged in the military.

Folk gods of Kumaon

In a culture embedded with worship – every peak, lake or mountain range is connected with some myth or God or Goddess. Their names are remembered through peaks, temples, as well as ritual folk poetry known as ‘Jagar’.

Flock dance and art

The Kumaon flock dance dates back thousands of years. This region is also known for rock painting and is said to be the point of origin of Pahari Kalam which is yet another style of painting well-known across the world.
